Records, 1768-1813.

These two folio volumes are the records kept by Flagg for the period 1768 to 1813. The first volume is both letterbook and account book. The letters are copies of Flagg's business correspondence with the suppliers of his general store in Salem (and later Worcester) from 1768 to 1786. In his letters to Hayley & Hopkins, Flagg orders goods, arranges for payment, and mentions his anxiety about duties on tea and other goods. These letters end in 1776, and begin again in Worcester in 1784, this time signed also by a partner, John Stanton (1755-1796), and addressed to another supplier, Alexander Champion, Jr. ( - ). The accounts are kept from 1795 to 1813, in Worcester, and are the records of Flagg's gristmill business. The second volume contains the records of Samuel Flagg as Justice of the Peace in Worcester from 1794 to 1797. Included are descriptions and dispositions of cases presided over by Flagg.
